Sustainability Magazine: How Budderfly Is Redefining Demand Side Energy Management

October 2026 - Budderfly was featured in Sustainability Magazine’s October 2026 issue, “How Budderfly Is Redefining Demand Side Energy Management.” The feature looks at how Budderfly’s Energy-as-a-Service model addresses the roughly 30% of energy that is wasted in many buildings. Budderfly takes on utility billing and infrastructure upgrades, including HVAC replacements and behind-the-meter battery storage, and funds efficiency improvements with the savings it creates while managing a customer’s electric bill over the length of the contract.

The piece covers Budderfly’s focus on small to medium-sized commercial properties of up to 200,000 square feet, and its more recent expansion into municipal facilities, where it is working with Schneider Electric. CEO Al Subbloie says Budderfly expects to install close to 6,000 new HVAC units in the US this year, and explains why the model makes it easy for customers to say yes: “Because we’re bearing all the risk, we write all the cheques.” The feature also explains how on-site batteries can help businesses avoid peak-pricing costs while supporting grid resiliency.
