November 5, 2026 - Budderfly was featured in Facilities Dive, in a piece by Lisa Burden on how energy-as-a-service (EaaS) is helping building operators manage energy costs and shift maintenance responsibilities to specialists. The article profiles Sean-Paul Ferrera, who has worked with Budderfly for six years, starting with one Dunkin’ restaurant in the San Antonio, Texas area and expanding the program to all six of his locations. “I didn’t even know energy-as-a-service was an option,” Ferrera said. He said the arrangement has helped him limit rising energy costs, improve building controls and maintain more consistent temperatures, and that a new HVAC system at one restaurant has even helped keep his doughnuts fresher throughout the day.

Derek Moskal, Budderfly’s vice president of field operations, explained that Budderfly pays for upgrades such as HVAC, lighting, refrigeration components and building controls, and owns the equipment it installs during the contract. The article notes that Budderfly targets energy reductions of approximately 30%, depending on the facility, and that contracts typically run 10 to 15 years. On maintenance, Moskal said Budderfly operates a service center and uses remote monitoring that can identify equipment problems before customers report them, with on-site support typically dispatched within 24 to 48 hours, and that Budderfly will fix problems with the equipment it owns.
