April 1, 2026 - Budderfly Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel Tom Flynn was quoted in Facilities Dive on how energy contracts and utility regulations are shielding many commercial facilities from the immediate impact of rising energy prices.
"The whole rate setting process with utilities and state regulators [is a hurdle] before [prices] would start to trickle down to … electric bills," Flynn said. "Our view is the cost of electricity is going to outstrip inflation. It has been and will continue to do that."
Flynn also noted that many small and mid-sized businesses are using 30% more energy than necessary, and that simple efficiency measures — from LED upgrades to regular HVAC maintenance — can make a meaningful difference. "You can get a meaningful pickup by simply" doing these small things, he said.
