# Bloomberg: Budderfly, Schneider Eye $500 Million in US City Energy Upgrades
October 20, 2026 - Budderfly was featured in a Bloomberg report by Mark Chediak on a new initiative with Schneider Electric. According to the report, Budderfly plans to make $500 million available for energy upgrades in small and mid-sized US cities, including solar, battery storage, and more efficient heating and cooling for aging municipal facilities. The program will target about 100 municipalities. Budderfly will finance it with existing capital and will install, own, and operate the new equipment, while Schneider Electric will provide energy management and automation technologies. Cities will pay over time using the savings the upgrades generate.
Bloomberg notes that the first project is in Cadillac, Michigan, where $4.4 million is being invested to improve energy systems at several facilities, including city hall and a wastewater-treatment plant. CEO Al Subbloie said smaller municipalities face pressure to modernize aging buildings on tight budgets, and that many lack the capital for upgrades that could lower their energy bills.
